Pls post pix of your cage setup

Heat Mar 14, 2007 02:03 AM

If you have less than 10 snakes, I'm looking for pix of your setup, please. (or links to pix)

Tubs, tanks, racks, heating, etc. homemade or not...

I have one 170g ball in a 10 gallon tank w/ a red heat light. Seems to be working well, but with the prospect of adding to the snake family, not sure what to do.

I have seen some cool wooden racks 6 feet tall with tubs that some of you built from scratch & posted on here.

I realize each snake needs their own enclosure. If it was a tub & the snake was 4 or 5 feet, how long & how high is best? Start w/ small tubs, or just build for a full size snake from the start?

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Recently you posted that when you walk through Home Depot, you point out each item & how it could be used to house snakes...
(I thought that was neat)

I'd like to hear your cage setup ideas b/c I am DIYer & HD Junkie.

Dare I say you have a nice rack there?????? But seriously, he did a nice job building that. It looks really professional. Brian (BHB)

Thank you, He did it in a day . I did have 7 tanks and this is so much easier, and they seem happy to..

I love this hobby. Where else can you say "You have a nice rack" or "Hey, man. Nice Balls" and not be offensive.

BTW Brian. The Het Albino is killing like a champ and the Mex. Black King has eaten and shed twice. Absolutely amazing animals.

How much did it cost? Did it take 1 weekend to make? Does he share in the herping bug? Looks great. I'm jealous!

The melamine was 109.00 and the tubs were on sale I think that was like 50 dollars, He had it completed by that night, I think total it took about 4 hours,He is quite handy, He helps with the snakes but hunting is more his thing.

I think that was me and right now the set-up is rather boring. I have a 125gal Lizard lounge with 5 Balls in it. I have 60 qt rubbermade tubs as quarantine tanks. This is for convenience since I currently live in a one bedroom apartment.

I have attached pics of the case system I had in Washington. It has two enclosures on the top, three in the middle, and one on bottom. Bad sides about the case: notice the light that got pulled down by the Ball and the doors were in the back. It is on rollers but it weighs about 300lbs. It is 5' tall, 6' wide, and about 2' deep.

There is also a pic of the enclosure we built for the rescued iguana. Spur of the moment item. 7' X 8' sliding glass door and plywood walls. Wire mesh for the roof with plastic over it to keep the heat in. As I said this was a spur of the moment thing and we did add Ficus trees and some live plants.

The last pic is a TV I gutted and am in the process of converting to an enclosure. 24/7 animal planet. I have remove all the TV electricals and need to paint it and put in the BP electricals. Lights, heat, thermostat.

Home Depot. Windows cost a couple hundred maybe and are ready to be framed. And evertime I see the melamine shelve systems with the pre drilled holes. All you would have to do is buy two, a back, top and bottom pieces, shelves. Any saw and cut from the back slots just big enough to slide the heat tape through. Add tubs.

And then there are the $150 cheap bathtubs and showers. Or find one that has been returned cracked or slightly damaged. Arboreal cages with a waterfall system.

OK, now I'm rambling again. Thanks, you've kicked in my addiction again. Now I have to find my local chapter of HERPERS ANONAMYS.

I can't wait to see the TV finished! What type of paint will you use? Do you have to strip it first? Or just rough sand & primer? Wondering what types of paint are snake friendly.

You are having too much fun!! But, you are truly motivating the rest of of DIYs!! Thanks!!

Please keep posting pix.

WOW I am green with envy.. Awesome set up..

chas3323 Mar 14, 2007 04:13 PM

First off nice set up. Looks very clean and net. I just have a few questions. I have noticed on your website and again here that you use the 32qt tubs for your adults unlike the bigger, longer cb-70 like most others. Have you noticed any side effects on behavior in your adult animals being in a smaller tub? Can they (the animals) regulate their body temp with sthe smaller thermal gradient? I am not bashing you I was just wanting to know your opinion and why you choose to go with 32qts and not something bigger? I am wanting to build a rack system and am wandering if I really need the cb-70 tubs or will the 32qrt's be sufficient. Also, what are the pros and cons of using paper towels vs. news paper, aspen, or any other type of bedding?

These questions are not only for Corey but anyone who might have some advice or opinion.

Thanks,
Chas

Wow. Wow. And all of this is in your house? Do you have special insurance in case of fire or theft? Did you have an electrician put in special circuits to plug the racks into? Did you ever blow a fuse?

I just want to breed a few snakes for fun. You look like you do this full time?

It is always interesting to hear/see how this hobby evolved for each herper.

Heat Mar 15, 2007 12:22 AM

Hmmm. This one looks to be what I need for starters.

What did you use for heat? Any way I could see a pic of the heating setup?

Heat Mar 15, 2007 12:56 AM

A trip to Home Depot is in the works.

What is the best material to install heating for only 3 tubs right now? Should I order a special heating unit from a repti site, or improvise from the hardware shop?

melindaste Mar 15, 2007 09:33 AM

I had to go to lowes, home depot here only sells the 13 inch boards
Lowes carries the 16 inch.
