The first pairing finally mated today. They are both albinos definite het anery.

Last year, the female laid eight eggs. It was a disaster when a power outage hit my area and was out of electricity for pretty much overnight. The seven eggs were the only ones left to hatch and there were only about 2 weeks left...but they all never made it. Upon examination, there were three underdeveloped snow hatchlings and five albinos hatchlings.

I initially thought power would come back in less than an hour but hindsight, I wonder what I would have done differently (other than hoping the power would restored soon).

Hopefully, luck will turn on their favor this year and no power outage.

Thanks for looking.

Ray

I think they would have preferred it if you payed attention to their "DO NOT DISTURB" sign they had hanging on the front!!lol. One thing I don't quite understand though,....how would the power going out for most of the night make all your eggs die??. I can understand them cooling off a bit, but not dying! I must be missing something critical to their setup?..............Doug

Hmm, I wouldn't want to be watched as well...hehehehe...

Anyway, the power failure was the only odd thing that happened. My other clutches from other pairs hatched perfectly and since the power failure happened when that last clutch has not hatched yet, it's gotta be it. I've been breeding hondos for quite awhile now and all the elements (medium-water ratio, humidity, temperature, etc) were properly done...it's almost like mechanical on my part when I do these things every year...maybe next time when that happens, I'll bring the whole incubation system to a friend's house and plug it there. It's just that you think that the power will come back soon...and then it never did. The Power company kept promising it will be back soon but to no avail. By the time you realize it, it's midnight and really late to ask a friend to wait up for you while you deliver the eggs to his house.

Well, lesson learned.

Later..
