baby beardie food

dre17am Mar 14, 2007 08:21 PM

I just received a baby beardie and I had a few questions about food that I havn't been able to find either posted or listed in care sheets.
I've read that prickly pear cactus is a great staple food for beardies and my moms got a great big nearly wild bush (under a sprinkler so nice and thick too) so I was thinking of feeding the pads in addition to storebought veggies. Does anyone else offer cactus to their beardies? and how do you feed it?

I haven't tried to feed cactus to my baby bd yet, but I've heard they usually love it! My Uros like it a lot. I would just make sure no pesticides were used on the plant and double check that the variety of cactus is what you think it is and that it's safe, then remove the spikes from the cactus pad and chop it finely.
