New-feeding schedule questions

ShannonLynn Mar 14, 2007 09:59 PM

I'm new to the snake part of the reptile world. So of course I am second guessing everything I do with my new female ball python.I purchased her Feb 24th at Hamburg,PA and this is her feeding chart so far:
Feb26th-1 frozen pinkie
March 4th-2 live pinkie
March 8th-1 frozen pinkie
March 10th-1 live hopper
March 14th-1 live hopper

I feel like I'm feeding her every couple of days..Is this a good schedule?Or am I totally messing this up?HELP

Your not messing up, but I would up the food size, I am not sure how old your snake is but if it is a small one I would offer a small mouse every 5 days. At least that. Pinkies are just to small even for new hatchlings.

It feels like you're feeding her every few days because you are...
I doubt your new ball is a tiny hatchling, so you should definately be able to up the prey size to at least an adult mouse. My hatchlings are only a month old and I'm about to start feeding them adult mice. Once you up the prey size, you'll only have to feed about once a week.

If it's a baby - probably one small adult to adult mouse or rat pup every 5-7 days. As it grows and your prey items get larger you can switch to once ever 7-10 days.

Try to match the girth of the prey item with the girth of the snake at it's largest point. If you are using frozen be sure to thaw it out completely before feeding.

Congratulations on the new addition and good luck!
