another female question...i know i know...lol

dmlove Aug 12, 2003 12:39 PM

well i moved her to the other cage away from the male, with another female she gets along with great, both are eating...i really dont think that the older female that was with Ralph at the time bred with him, unfortunatly. Everyone keeps saying "oh after brumation they usually always get it on" haha, well not in this case. She seems to just be a tease, arm waving and slow headbobbs, and then running away and swimming when he is on top of her. He is a very aggressive breeder, not in the violent way, but he gets on top of her as much as he can, biting her nape, trying to breed, but she never lifts her tail, and just tries to get him off her. Kind of confusing. Im not sure what i need to do to make her "ready", as she keeps showing that she isnt. She is 1 1/2 yrs old, never bred before. I never witnessed any breeding, and i really dont think she has bred while i wasnt there. Well, thats all, just confused, lol. Good day.

There is really no set way to make a girl receptive (ask any guy! haha). They have to decide for themselves that they are "in the mood". All you can do is keep trying. We have afternoon rodeo's at our house. Let your pair out on the carpet for a little romp sometime during the day. (We don't keep the males with the females - too much stress). It usually takes us a few weeks to get a favorable response. Don't get discouraged!Eventually they will decide the time is right.

(You can always play them some Barry White - it won't hurt...)

Don't worry... They aren't shy at all...
