Anyone understand this????

Guys, Elvis is getting lazy, and fat and her gravid colour is a little pale compared to what it was a fortnight ago. I was told by a German keeper recently that Bicinctores lay approx 12 to 15 days after changing colour (I'm not sure I beleive this to be true):

"Usually it shoud take about 10-13 days until they lay their eggs after getting the orange colour"

and then this too:

"Hey Kellybee,
C.bicinctores often loose their orange stripes a few days before they lay their eggs.
Good luck! "

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Do they really fade a little before laying?

She is quite round, but not a great deal more than normal, her fat seems to be centred around her middle, rather than her neck, tail and legs, and she does not appear lumpy, her fat is also quite compact, no loose skin or wrinkles. The best way I can describe her is like when they spread their ribs out to absorb heat, that kind of round........... its only been 15 days since she changed colour, whatever happens happens, but you all know I like to satisfy my curiosity, anyone got an opinion on this?

She's digging in her lay box where it's damp, all the way to the bottom, and wide awake whilst the other 4 are in the land of nod.

I just switched the incubator on, give it a chance to warm up just incase

Don't understand.... LOL

Kelly after they mate it usually takes about 22 - 24 days before they lay, Since you have no idea if or when they ever mated, I would just be prepared, and be observant.

Remember those numbers every one gives are just an approx... when to begin to watch, some lay before, I have some that lay at about 30 somethimg days. The longer you have them, or even after you get to know her ways... you will begin to know how long it takes her by her actions, and be more prepared the next time.

If shes digging and not eating like she was, then prepare. Some of mine dig 3 days before, some dig the same day... thats what I mean, they each do their own thing.

I just wondered what the heck he was talking about, 12 day seemed a little extreme, but then again I remember reading somewhere that gestation can be 12 to 28 days.. Anyway, she has taken to digging in her lay box, normally the Bicinctores dont dig, they just bounce off the walls, however I've got the incubator switched on at 82 to 84 degrees and have dampened her lay box, I'll keep my eyes peeled the next week or two, I didnt see her eat this morning, but she drank a lot of water.

Hopefully I can now sit back for a week or so, and leave her to it

I got it stabilised, I just had to change the temperature on the water heater, it fluctuates between 82 and 84 but that's fine by me, thanks for asking, I plan to order a hovabator 220v from the USA, but its a case of waiting for delivery, and then get the temps right, so I'll use this one for now just incase
