Nine out of nine.....

rainbowsrus Mar 15, 2007 03:23 PM

successful shipments. WOOHOO!!!!

I had been selling BRB's over the winter months and most of the overnight shipments were on hold until weather warmed up enough to safely ship. Tuesday I sent out nine packages, eight of which arrived next day as planned. Including the two prior posts. There was one however that got held up and didn't make it until today. Been sweating that one but got a voicemail today that she arrived fine and was not really cold. The heat pack had expired but weather had warmed up enough that she was fine without it.

This is why you shouldn't ship overnight when the weather is too cold (or hot). If it gets delayed or the heat pack fails for whatever reason, the snake still makes it OK. Maybe not optimal temps but still acceptable!!!

Dave,
....You and I think alike on shipping. If shipping goes exactly as scheduled you have no problems. But sometimes a shipment does get delayed. If the weather is too cold or too hot and the shipment gets stuck somewhere enroute you have the chance of harming the snakes. This to me is just not an acceptable risk. It is also why I do not ship on thursdays. If the shipment gets lost and does not get delivered on friday it would likely be lost until monday. These snakes can do okay in a box for quite awhile but 4 days is too long even with ideal temperatures. I like selling snakes but I will pass up a sale to be careful.

Jeff,

Yes we do think alike. For me the reality is these are MY babies. I know I have to send them out into the world and sometimes bad stuff happens. I know for certain at least one of my 2006's has already perished. The poor thing escaped and was eventually found near death. My goal is to place them with people who care and to give them as good a chance as I can. That's why I'm always willing to answer as many questions a potential buyer has and give them info on how to properly set up an enclosure and care for a BRB. I too only ship Mon - Wed forthe exact reason you stated, sometimes the packages do get help up.

Over the last few years I've brought in many animals and still surprises me how others will ship. 've received boxes with no heat packs, others without styrofoam insulation, minimal marking on individual containers to where I had to basically figure out which was which. I've also had to tell breeders to not ship yet since IMO the weather was too cold. etc. etc.

All my babies are shipped individualy packaged in properly labeled, appropriate sized containers (deli cup or bag) with hot or cold packs as needed in an insulated new shipping box ( I have re-used a few, but only really nice larger ones). I also include complete history cards with each along with a care sheet and an original invoice for their records should they decide to keep them. I know I've kept all the info on every one I've received! Heck, I even created a naming convention so each baby can be associated with it's parents. ie SA-PO-01 (Amber), Mom is SAvannah, Dad is POrky and she was the one that got pulled and tagged first, duh, I saw the "eclipse" phase and snatched her up first.

Bottom line is I know I'm not the only one who really cares for their snakes. I'm really surprized there are those (and too darn many IMO) who seem to not care as much!

Each and every one of my customers that has had to wait for safe weather to ship has been totally patient. Yes it's clear they want their baby(s) but none was preasuring me in any way to ship before weather was safe. Even had a couple of "maybe ship next week" that fell through as forecasts changed. Was a pleasure to work with all of them!!!!!!

I did get a bit wordy huh, been hanging around Bob too long.
