That is a hypo tangerine...

I thought Hypos had 12 or less spots. I counted 20. Or is each cluster of spots concidered one spot?

Does that photo accurately represent her colors?

If so, I'd consider her a hypo high-yellow, not a tangerine.

leapin_lizards Mar 15, 2007 11:09 PM

Yes, that picture is accurate. If she's a hypo high yellow, how do you tell the difference between tangerine and high yellow? (I'm a leopard gecko newbie )

LeoLady420 Mar 16, 2007 08:16 AM

I agree with high yellow, but still not sure of that whole hypo thing. Like csherp said i thought it was by dots?

AlteredMind99 Mar 16, 2007 09:35 AM

I agree, i thought it was 10-12spots or less to be considered a "hypo"???

She is a cutie either way!

When I see an orange gecko, its a tangerine... There are different levels of tangerine... Some are brighter, some are duller... Unless the color is off on my computer screen, that leo does not look yellow...

As far as it being considered a hypo, I would say yes... The spotting is minimal and it is consentrated only where the dark bands would be located... There are no "written in stone" rules guys and girls... There is no leopard gecko rule book that says less than 12 spots makes a hypo... All hypo means is "less than normal" black pigmentation...

That leo is, without a doubt a hypo tangerine...

Maybe, I am just oldschool but I am pretty sure yellow is still yellow and tangerine is still orange... If you guys could see what was considered a high yellow way back when, you would see what I am talking about...

GreggMM.
Thanks for clarifing why you called that animal a Hypo. I see what your talking about. I was thrown off by the spot count but they were clustered. I was more wondering why you put Hypo on it then disputeing it.
So in your opinion of the Leo I have pictured below, would she be concidered a Hypo? I think she's Hypoish. I've been calling her just Tangerine to be safe. If I can throw Hypo on her as well, cool.

GreggMM Mar 18, 2007 06:24 AM

I would call that a hypo for sure... Nice leo... I like the head spotting on that one...
