uros smell?

wbcrows Mar 15, 2007 07:28 PM

Guys I did a lot of research before diving in, I have my uro in millet bird seed substrate and today , day 2 I'm picking up a semi bad scent from my uro. Is this going to go away or is it something i'm going to need to get used to. Is there any thing wrong with him or is it just left over stink from being in a pet store tank? If so my wife is going to kill me

Thanks Dude, just a question if I have to bring him to a Vet what do you think the problem is?

bacterial infection

but don't go euthanizing him or anything it's probably not a big deal. But a vet will need to determine that for you if the smell doesn't go away completely after a reasonable attempt at cleaning him up.

OH god no never even thought of doing that, I just got him and he's all over the tank and eating the moment I put him in the tank. He's eating carrots from the froz mix and corn. Hasn't touched his greens yet...

Is it possible he's having loose stools? Have you checked under his tail for fecal matter around his vent? Just a thought. Good luck with him!

I just purchased him two days ago and didn't want to overly handle him in the begining. I did take a quick look in the begining and didn't see anything.

Any other members have any ideas?

Sometimes when they go to the bathroom some of them tend to walk while rubbing their tale to get the rest off, and while doing that they can rub it right back on to them and not no it. After a few days it tends to smell so a bath may be in order, they will puff up and usually not tend to like a bath at all. Make sure temps are close and just wipe like a little baby their butts and you should be good to go. Now you can't bathe them to often. Also when done bathing make sure that their tails are completely dry as they can tend to get tail rot pretty easily.

It could be among many other reasons as well but that is one noone touched on so i did, but i do agree with some other suggestions like parasites, runny stools, and so on.

Good luck

I say Call a veterinarian as only a qualified herp vet can properly assess the situation and to give any other advise is foolish and self serving, especially over the internet to a beginner.

and asking someone for more information about a reptile when they are looking for advice on a reptile forum is even more common practice. You know that.
