Alterna or Blairs? With Picture

Kingsnaken Mar 15, 2007 09:40 PM

Picture isn't perfect, but I am learning. This is a Black Gap female I got from David Doherty at the Daytona Expo in '05. I finally got her to take unscented a couple months ago. Now she has really been growing. This is the type of GBK I really love. Her oranges are just starting to wash out. I'm not sure what phase she is. I like looking at Dan Johnson's website and seeing some of his washed out GBKs. Those are the types I love. Thanks, Derek

I would call that a alterna. A blairs phase would be a animal without the small black "alternates" between the saddles. Some guys call a animal with little to no orange a alterna but other insist on alternates to be present to consider a animal a alterna. That makes sense to me since the alternates are where the name comes from...

This would be a blairs all the way

Mine is doing well also. I will post a pic of her later next week. She is from the same clutch. She will breed next year. Hope you get her on the right track soon.

Hey Wayne, she is doing great. She eats unscented very large pinks or small fuzzies, but since it took so long to get her to eat unscented, I'll probably have to wait intil '09 to breed her. I do have another BG female that isn't quite as pretty as her, but maybe she'll produce some. Maybe I should have been giving her scented more than I was, but she went off feed last summer, and I almost bought a Texas fence lizard from David Doherty. I pretty much just had to pay for shipping, but it was very expensive. Luckily, I force fed her a couple tails, then she started eating unscented regularly. I have a generic pair that I hatched 8 good hatchlings last summer, but one died from egg rolling over. 6 of them started eating very quickly after force feeding a few times, but 1 was a tiny runt, and it isn't eating itself yet. I'll keep trying, but it would have probably died in the wild. Thanks, Derek

I think your going to get mixed opinions on the alterna/blairs question.. Some may even say intermediate, but in my opinion it's a blairs.

Either way.. it's only going to get better looking as it grows and whatever you choose to call it that's a great looking BG you have there!!
