Flipping Casques

Niobex Aug 12, 2003 01:29 PM

Recently my daughter brought her male veiled "Spin Doctor" over and we "introduced" Ichabob to him. Needless to say the colors were magnificent! Watching them swell up, flatten and hiss was a treat! My daughter noticed that the fleshy sides of their casques were slowly moving forward and back and forth. Has anyone else seen this? Well, after about a minute Ichabob lost his colors and backed down. Now my daughter is boasting that her cham can whip my cham! Lol! BTW, we were very careful with them and the meeting only lasted a few minutes.

It was just probably the muscles inside the casqued being tensed up.

If you mean the peace of thin skin that is found where our ears would be, yes, chameleons are known to do that. I believe that it makes the chameleons look bigger. Also, has anyone felt their chameleons communicate? My male veiled shook his head very slightly side to side, and his vibrations were felt. Indeed, this is, i believe, infrasound.

My Veiled Chameleon has communictaed with me before, so hasn't my Bearded Pygmy Chameleon before.

Yes, that is where we saw the movement. Neat, isn't it? As for the vibration..I have never felt that but I suppose that vibration would pass along a branch or vine to inform one cham that another is one the way. Perhaps it could also be a form of intimidation (I am so big, buster, that I shake the whole branch). I hope I can experience that in my cham someday. That was very interesting!
