water?

Until the u.v. steralizer thread i never put much thought into my fountain. It's a cheap little foutain with polished rocks that i got at target about 2 1/2 years ago. Since then (2 1/2 years) it has been in my oldest veileds cage. No free roaming crickets, and the water in it evaporates and i fill it back up every 2 or 3 days. I only wash it every two or three weeks when i put new turf in his cage (i clean the turf up every few days).
Is this fountain a bad thing? He has been ok for almost three years. Am i pushing my luck? HE loves the thing and after every few crickets, he runs to it and laps up some water.
Thanks,
CC

I think you've been lucky! The biggest problem would be the free roaming crix, and you've avoided that. You are also lucky that he doesn't choose to poop over the fountain. Also, you fill the fountain with fresh water often, and depending on what's in the water you are using (treated city water? Bottled spring water?) there won't be a lot of nasties in that. I think I would clean the fountain more often just to be safe. Chams don't like change and once yours has decided to drink out of it you don't really want to upset that. Removing a known source of drinking water is risky...if your cham refuses to switch to another method reliably he could end up with dehydration problems which are harder to deal with.

I'd add a dripping system and see if your cham will switch. Even if you were cleaning it daily, I would recommend against the fountain.
