Pictures of my little leos, etc.

brak Aug 12, 2003 01:31 PM

Hi, apparently even though I saw the pictures last night in the threads I thought they were posted in, I now can't see them on my work computer. I figured it out...my free webspace account does not allow direct access to files on the webserver, I actually have to put the pictures into an HTML document...so I did that really quick. Here they are. (In hind sight I probably should have uploaded them to kingsnake.com)

www.kukana.com/Animal8.html

And here is the text to my original post with a couple questions based on the pictures.

Well the pictures aren't great but they'll do. I got both of these at Petco for $24.00USD, I thought it was a pretty good deal, now I just need to get some meat on their bones. What do you think?

Ok, question...Obviously the albino is a plain yellow striped albino, but I'm curious about how to decribe the other. His broken strip behind his front legs is a little jungley, his nice rich yellow has really vague hints of orange in it and his tail has a tiny little carrot-ish orange mark on it. I don't think it's right to call him/her a jungle tangerine carrot-tail, but he/she is clearly not as plain as most of the others I've seen, how would you describe it?

Ok, a more important question - The albino is about 4" long from tail to head, and the other one is about 6". The albino seems much smaller and tonight got a vicious bite to the head during feeding. Is the albino too small to be in the same tank with the other one, should I take one back so I end up with two of the same size?

The biggest problem with the size difference would be competition during feeding. I usually try to make sure both of my geckos are in different parts of the tank when I start putting food in, and then I watch closely to make sure they're both getting their fair share of the food.

Your albino also looks like it's too small to be on sand.

Thank you for the advice, that is what I have been doing as far as feeding goes, but sometimes they get a little too close. After that bite last night, I will be less willing to let them hunt in the same area.

So, what would you call the larger one, is that what people call a jungle pattern? Is there enough orange on the tail to be a carrot-tail? I've heard some say it has to be at least 15% orange and saw a site where ones just like mine were being sold as carrot-tails, but on the other hand I saw a post where someone said the tail should be almost all orange with no black spots to be considered carrot-tail. Whadaya think? I really don't care one way or the other, I am just tired of calling it the non-albino one.

Speaking of what I call em, any suggestions for asexual names (other than Pat )?

I dont think the bands on the tail are broken up enough to call it a jungle, but its a nice looking Gecko.

If you have a problem with them running into each other while they chase after crickets, you can try luring them into separate areas of the tank and then dropping mealworms in front of them one by one. And just try to time it right so one gecko doesn't go investigate what the other one's crunching on.

That's what I do anyway. lol It's time-consuming, but it's just more time with my geckos.

I'm not very good at identifying morphs, but I don't think that one would be considered a carrot-tail. There should be more orange and closer to the base of the tail. Still a beautiful gecko though. He or she will be a beauty grown up.

You got them both for $24 or each?

As for names, for some reason, I think of Pineapple when I look at the albino. *lol*

Thx for the reply. Yeah, it is time consuming, and since neither of them will eat mealworms, it is that much more difficult. The little albino likes to chase around the crickets and often bumps into the larger one. No incidents during last night's feeding and they hang out real close together the rest of the time.

Heh-heh, Pineapple, that is hilarious.
