Hydration issues

Amk2109 Aug 12, 2003 01:42 PM

I read another post and became curious about something. The vet had told the other person that post a message that the wrinkles on the beardies back meant dehydration. I have a beardie that has already had wrinkles off to the sides of his back. I give him water everyday. How much water should I be giving him? Is there another cause of this? He was at the vet for some other problems at the University of Illinois veterinary clinic and they never mentioned hydration as a problem. Just wanting some thoughts. Thanks!

The vet told me that if you can pull the skin up slightly (on the back) and it doesn't go right back down, then the reptile is most likely dehydrated. This was the case with Ojay. You can pull the fold of skin up a little and it kinda stays there for a second before going back down. Since Ojay wasn't eating well he wasn't getting the moisture he needed from his veggies. I was giving him drops of Pedialyte everyday on the tip of his nose and he would lick it up. I guess that just wasn't enough.
