A big thanks to everyone who offered caging advice, hide advice, etc. and support when I posted I was getting my daughter a new Uro after the one we purchased before passed away. Needless to say, comparing a healthy uro to an obviously sick one when purchased is like night and day!!! I got the larger cage, installed a bright spot bulb, and made a snug hide out of a ceramic tile elevated on one end about 1/2 inch off the ground by securing with clamps to a piece of wood. It is awesome the amount of food this guy ingests!!! He is mostly in his tile hide under the spot lamp when we get home in the evening, but his greens and veggies are always gone and he has also been snacking on a bowl of TRex Tortoise pellets I put in there for him as well. Truly awesome animals. A big thumbs up to anyone who specializes in these guys!!!!

A question though. It was purchased as a cb06 animal (probably ranched from what I have read). It is about five to six inches long, and the tail still has a bit of the chubby short baby look I have seen in magazines/websites showing pics of babie and juvie uros. How long will it take for it to reach adult size, and start to color up? I am hoping it is male for color reasons. Just curious as to when we may see some neat colors. Its basically still drab brownish looking, but I am noticing faint outlines of back patterning appearing.

Others may say different but, three years or less on a good diet & temp regimen should begin to produce those adult colors & reproductive ability.

Did you mention the species? If so I missed it. Three years sounds reasonable for a mali - sooner for a geyri or ornate.
