Should I throw the mice away?

bmulcahy Mar 17, 2007 08:04 AM

This week when I was feeding the snakes in my class I had a major brain fart. After taking the mice out of the freezer, I put the remaining mice back into the fridge. When I cam home that night I discover the mice and they weren't frozen or thawed. They weresomewhere in the middle, a little hard with soft edges. I put them back into the freezer. Should I throw them away?

Thanks for your input!

Brian

i think they should be fine to put in the freezer and use, but by all means, if they smell funky throw them out... but i think it'll be ok. the snake might like the taste...i know i have some snakes that like their meals over cooked (eww) kinda like steak. i like mine medium with a lil pink. my mom likes hers almost rare and my husband likes it burnt to a crisp

I can't eat a steak well done. Medium rare to Medium works for me.
Kin, if you and your husband make it to the Richmond show, it would be good to say hi to you guys. I think I've met several of the Va. folks, except you and Jeff(Cochran).
Also I see a while back on the Mexicana forum, you were curious if your thayeri was a clutchmate to mine. The answer is Yes, your's is a full sibling to my 06 male. Russ had answered that on the forum in case you had missed it.

Well, i'm definately going to the richmond show- my boss got upset that i asked for it off so he fired me, but i can stay til this tuesday to get money to pay for my house payment. I asked russ to look and see if ours were related and i thought it was amazing how we got clutch-mates we're kinda related in a way. I love meeting people!! so i hope to see you there. i think jeff really wants to go to this show so hopefully he can make it!!! I'll have to post updates of the babies i got from him. the candy cane is changing like crazy and my abbotts is getting redder. feel free to e-mail me and we can talk further about meeting!!! i think i'm just the only girl on here from va. oh well. talk to you later!!!

They should be fine. Just defrost them slowly the next time around. If you put them in hot water, the stomach area might get soft and rupture. Even then, they should be safe to feed to your snakes if it would eat it - just smelly and gross.
