First activity of the year

kensopher Mar 17, 2007 10:23 AM

During the two consecutive days in the 80's, I snapped some early season activity in my yard. I'm sorry about the composition, but I thought you may like to see them anyway.

This first picture is of my Desert Box turtles. They've only been active for two days, and I was giving them a nice soak while doing some work on their pen. I couldn't believe it...the male is wasting no time. Of course he must still be groggy, as his aims seems to be a bit off

Here are pictures of some young turtles trying to warm up. I know you can't see much, but I just had to take pictures...I'm very excited.

The first is a Florida Box turtle and the second is a Gulf Coast Box turtle.

How many waking Ornate Box turtles can you see in this picture?

Hey, you're good! It took my Wife like 10 minutes to find the last one.

Maybe I just have good eyes or luck? Does your wife like turtles too?

I tried to post a new photo with a blue arrow, but it won't show the arrow when I upload the picture. Hmmmm.

Just keep your eyes moving from the larger one straight up to the smaller one, and keep looking up. About the same distance away as the two of them is another. You can just barely see the striations of the carapace beneath the leaves.

She thinks they're cute. She'd have a better opinion of them if they didn't occupy so much of my time.
