JCP ate some feederfish

IdoTHATforME Mar 17, 2007 12:11 PM

I was tossing some feeders into my filesnake tank, then i noticed my carpet going crazy looking for food. She seemed very interested in the scent of the fish, I tossed one in her water bowl, went upstairs to thaw some mice out to feed her and the other snakes. I came back with the mice, and i saw the tail of the goldfish going down the throat of the snake! so do carpet pythons normally eat fish in the wild every now and then?

Not sure if they do it in the wild or not (frogs are probably taken, which aren't *that* different from a fish).

But I wouldn't recommend it in captivity-
a) Goldfish are veritable parasite factories
b) To my understanding fish can be a relished item by snakes that are switched to them, and it can be difficult to switch them back to appropriate foods.
c) That poop is going to be a HAZ-MAT situation.

Good luck!
