Did you make that large hide (the one that sort of doubles as a second level and has the coconut hides on top) or did you buy it? If you made it, how did you do so? I really like it!

Yes, me and my gf did make it. We are thinking about putting it back in, if we do put it back in it will be at the expense of the background we have in now (in the astro-turf pics). They loved to climb up and down it but none of them really hung out up there. We think it may have just been too cold.

To make the cavecliff:

First we made a basic wood frame, basically just like a mini table. The ply-wood we used was about a quarter-inch thick or so and the legs maybe a half-inch square. Then we used wire mesh to make the cliffwall part and covered it with this stuff called "U-Build-The-Mountain." It's kind of like a plaster stuff that you add water to then you just apply it onto the mesh, shape it, and let it dry for a day or two. Then we painted it with non-toxic paint. Everything was bought at AC Moore. We also made the big gray hide on the right side.

I used to use the carpet when I had more leos, and I learned the following lesson:

As you well know, leos poop/pee in the same place ... that carpet soaks up any liquids and eventually winds up stinking pretty bad. You then have to wash it fairly frequently, which means taking the setup apart to get it out. Eventually I started putting a few layers of paper towel down over the area where they poop/pee, but after a while I ditched that, and the carpet, and just used paper towels.

You laugh now, I guarantee you run into the problem after a while using the carpet!

I know exactly what you mean. When I was younger I had an iguana on the same stuff and experienced that problem. Shortly after taking the posted pics I put 2 layers of paper towels down on their bathroom side for easy clean up.
