We need snake Pitocin.

RyanT Mar 17, 2007 03:06 PM

Somebody really needs to create something that induces labor in snakes. All week my 1 gravid female was acting like she was going to drop at any time. Now, at day 31, she's doing nothing. There has to be an easier way.

and it works on all animals........I guess.......

and if you would use it to induce her to lay...she may lay too early and you would kill all the eggs........

or if she isn't ready she could be induced into pushing out half of them early and then tiring and stopping and the other half would/ may get stuck....which could then be layed later correctly or could actually get stuck for good......and cost you (and her) too much.....

31 days......let her alone.........

we start breeding in October.....and they lay at times in August the next year.......after we raise them for 20 months to years and years........

a couple days won't kill you........

........go shovel snow or plant a garden to pine away the time ......

LOL

............they take as long as they take.......and they take more than 30 days alot if they like to........

Sorry, I know it's hard to read sarcasm, but you took me way too seriously. I was just trying to say I'm getting impatient, like everyone else when laying takes longer than expected.

Oh, wait, I mean:

Sorry.......I know it's hard to read sarcasm............. but you.......took me.............way too........... seriously.

Haha. I've always wanted to do that to you.

I wasn't sure if you were kidding or not and you know there are way too many stupid people in here that actually would have tried it if they thought it might work so I thought maybe I'd just write it out anyways so here I am again and I will try it your way without the dots and see if it looks better to you without the breaks and punctuation marks and all and see if you can read it better as a whole big paragraph and all.?

........that sucked........................
,,,,,,,,,
Uhuh........

...........ps...I hope she doesn't lay till day 40 or so just to make you jumpy......

Thanks for the effort. I know that must have killed you to write like every other English speaking person.

When do you usually stop pairing them up. I am curious because I started pairing in october as well and I have a few females that have locked up many times, but I am not seeing any signs that they are going to become gravid yet. I am hoping for a few late clutches but I am just not sure when I should stop breeding the males to them. I don't really want my males to fast for too much longer.

We started pairing ours up at the end of October. My female ovulated Feb. 2. The male was put in for another week or so after that but he didn't show any further interest so we stopped. The other female we had paired him up with doesn't look like she's gonna do anything this year...so far nothing from her.

So, you paired a female, that had already ovulated, with a male for breeding again? I've always been under the impression that once they ovulate, it's a done deal. Just wondering what your intentions were.

Mine looked like she was gonna go a week early... restless, coiling, restless.. coiling, heck even hoped that the low pressure storm system that just passed would encourage her to go, but nope. she is driving me nuts.

All last week she was doing what you just described. Now, we're at day 32. She's showing no signs of anything and really doesn't even look gravid anymore. I know (well, hope) that means she's close but it does drive you freaking crazy, doesn't it? I think I check on her every 5-10 minutes.
