WHat is she????
Heres a pic of a red and a yellow.

Heres three what I call topenders.

Here are two blackfaced ackies and one topender.

These pics were taken last week, they are all a few months old. Cheers
That big fat yellow ackie in that first picture is the most spectacular yellow I have seen yet. I am curious to what it's story is. Is it a cross? It looks lot different than any others. How is it that all of these different looks keep appearing (reds, yellows, topenders, red brachies, etc..) when Oz hasn't been letting any out? Were there really that many different types in zoos in europe that these over the years these were spawn from, or have the captive stocks outside of Oz been getting new replacements. I believe that 12 or so years ago yellows were the only things available in the U.S. and all of those had pretty much the same look about them. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Ron
Hi Ron, That yellow is not a cross. Its a normal yellow from my line(Mt. Isa) to a german red(different Mt.Isa) So it ended up having red and lots of lite yellow.
The whole clutch/s is nice, but that one is the most extreme.
I had topenders and blackface for a very long time. I just never got around to doing anything with them. In fact, I breed top enders, then got rid of them, then got them back and sat on them.
I did the same with gilleni, I bred the heck out of them. Then go rid of them, only to get some back and hopefully I will re re-establish them.
I did the same with Kings, but nobody kept them going, so poof, they are gone.
Hopefully soon I will get Kimberlys back again too.
The truth was, there was lots of people who had lots of things, they just did not tell anyone. Cheers
...but what does topender mean? Is it in reference to wines on the "topshelf"?
Just curious,
Scott
Its an ackie that occurs in the "topend" of australia. There are two other named ackies that are INCLUDED in this type. V.a.insularis, from the Sir Edward Pellew islands, and V.barijti, from the darwin area. In reallife, this type of ackie occurs across the topend west to the western Kimberlys. The Blackfaced is a form from the western kimberlys.
Jon Weigal tried or was going to try to publish the Blackfaced ackie. I do not know if that happened. Also, they occur continiously from the Barijti to the blackfaced to the mainland near the sir edward pellew islands.
While they are continious in their habitat, there are normal ackies(yellows) also in their range, but with a different habitat.
There are many unknown ackies. Another example is one from the southern part of their range. Its all red(drab) and some individuals have no other markings. Some individuals have faint black markings. While color is one thing, these fellas do not get any larger then storrs. Maybe smaller, Adults are around a foot. I have seen a photographed many of those. Again, this type occurs in a different habitat, and is interspaced with a dominait type ackie. Which is closely related to reds, but is not a red.
Also in all reality there are many many unpublished and many many unknown(I know of a bunch and I am sure there is more)monitors. In oz there are also a zillion unpublished and unknown other reptiles such a agamids, pythons, and lots of turtles.
The good part is, there is no need to publish them as they are undisturbed. Publishing there whereabouts will only cause them harm. As it is, most are exactly like they were for millions of years, how wonderful is that. Cheers
Thanks for clearing that up Frank. I kept reading "Topenders" as a reference to "Hi End" or select individuals. Now I have to laugh at myself...I guess I have been reading the boa and ball morph pages to much!
Thanks again.
Scott
I do have high end, topenders, hahahahahahahahahahha
hes the dad to those in the pic. Enjoy
Chunky with racing stripes
Very nice shot Frank!
He is a thick one, but most of that is air. I hose off the dirt, and they hate it and fill up with air(to float away I guess) hahahahahahahahaha Kinda why I don't take pics to often. Cheers
I definitely will look in to getting a topender/blackface, gilleni, or kimberly when you re-establish them. That is, if you can weedle down that dang price range while doing so...
Cheers,
Ryan
