Should I help the little guy out???

smith710 Mar 17, 2007 11:00 PM

My second hatchling is coming out of the egg right now. The first one came out this morning. BUT this guy has had his head sticking out the top of the egg for like an hour now at least. It's been an hour since we noticed his head out, so who knows how long. Should we help him out? Or should he be fine. These are our first hatchlings ever, and I never saw or read anything about this, so I really don't know what to do right now, I just never thought it would take this long.

Hi, just saw this, sure hope by now your hatching has emerged and is completely in our world Congratulations on the new kids!

I breed some lizards, especially collareds, and it is not at all uncommon for them to take all day to completley break out of the egg. Seems to take so very long, when you have never seen it before.
But it is extremely hard work for them to break free from their egg, and they have to rest often until then wriggle out. Also before they hatch they need to absorb the egg yolk.

Sometimes the one who struggles the longest just may not be quite as strong as ones who hatch quicker.

And yes, I have known people to help them at some point if it has really been a long time. But it is always best to let them hatch themselves whenever possible.

Well let us know if he/she made it out okay, be waiting, maybe we can see some pics of the new youngsters
