Just expressing my frustrations

TMichael May 21, 2003 11:49 AM

This new format is way too slow for us folks with a dial-up connection. I wish I had other options but no one has made it to my neck of the woods yet. I will difinately be spending less time here !!!!!

I have broadband cable and this forum makes it feel like I am on a dial up. I feel your frustration. I wish they would have left it alone too. I miss coming on and looking at pics now I rarely get on here. I am trying to find another site with similar forums, but I have not found anything better yet. I guess we are stuck. Craig

I don't know if it will help much, but you could try right clicking on anything you want to see or read and open it in a new window. The only drawback is - if you want to reply to the post you have to enter your password every time. Ahhh, the growing pains of technology.

I didn't want to speak up on this issue because I can honestly say that I am not having any of the problems that all you guys seem to be having. To the contray I am getting used to and enjoying the new forum, so of the flaws that use to drive me crazy are corrected now, such as a preview to the post. But I am on a cable modem that gets much better then average connections so that may be helping me greatly.
The post with the 35 pictures of boas eyes popped up right away with no wait at all. It was very impressive (being a reformed dila up guy myself)
I hope you guys get the bugs worked out, I would hate to see us loose forum users because of a new format.

Folks,

If you're having difficulties like this, PLEASE send me e-mail with the details. I personally am on a cable-modem, and have not noticed any of the issues I'm hearing from folks - and no, I'm not connected to the main server, I'm 1500 miles away. Tell me what's happening, and I'll forward it to the techs!!

I am on dial up and using AOHell. I see no difference between the new forums and the old forums in terms of speed of access and page loading. Everything moves along as nice and normal as it usually does. If I do have problems it is usually associated with AOL dumping me from my connection (probably static in the phone line somewhere) or an occasionall confliction with AOL and the add-on program I use to enhance AOL and make it more user friendly.

you personally aren't having any problems none of the rest of us are???

I'm on dial-up through a server at work. The old forums loaded within a couple of seconds, these new forums take 10-15-or more to load a single page. Multiply that by however many pages we want to view and you should be able to see the frustration level for some of us........

I never said that so please do not put words in my mouth.

I was merely stating my opinion that my ability to access the forums in regards to dial up has absolutely no affect on how fast the forums load...I see no difference on the new forums as I saw on the old forums. It's the same for ME. I never said that just because I do not have a problem that others may not be having a problem.

The slowness some people are experiencing cannot be blamed soley on those folks with dial up and it cannot be blamed soley on the fact of these new forums. People coming from all types of computer setups and connections are having some difficulty while others using those same variations are seeing no problems what so ever.

One of the computers I use at work is actually a great deal slower than the computer I use at home and at work it is not a dial up connection. Also, while that one work computer is slow, a computer in the next room on the exact same network connection is faster than my computer at home!

Chances are the bulk of any remaining technical problems with people accessing the forums are having lies within their computers in some fashion...either they have not recently updated their OS, browser or something.

I too, will be spending much less time here. It takes MINUTES and MINUTES to read the comments and responses from just ONE THREAD!!!! I just don't have that much *free* time to sit in front of my computer. Plus.....it is just too danged annoying. It takes forever for each page to load when I click back and forth between comments, replies and back to the forum page. There is just no sense in it. Maybe they just don't care about or want the dialup folks.......oh well.
