I think my veiled is dehydrated

ruffmouth Mar 18, 2007 05:39 PM

Hi
I've had my veiled for about 4 months. He doesn't drink very often at least from what I have seen. And most of the time I see him trying to drink by shooting his tongue at the water. But whats got me worried is that he normally sheds with in a day and this shed is going into the 3rd day and he is only half way done. Also his eyes aren't totally sunken but they don't seem as full as they normally do. He gets misted twice a day and has a drip system. All the other chams I've had would drink very often and I would see them do it. I need some advice on how to hydrate him and would his eyes be very sunken or is slightly an early sign.
thank you
Justin

Generally, from what I've read, slow (dry and retained) shedding may occur If the environment and health of the animal are not right. If the chameleon is having trouble shedding, look at those things. I'm not saying that your chameleon isn't dehydrated....but just to check out other possibilities for the shed being slow too. Sunken eyes can indicate dehydration but can also be an indication of other issues too.
