is it white crystal type stuff? if it is from what ive read it is a salty substance that forms there and is pretty common, you can clean it with a wet cue tip. I know there are some posts on here about that.
A crusty white buildup around the nose is normal. They excrete excess salts from the body through the nose. If it's yellow, runny, bubbly...those are not right and should be checked by the vet when you take him in.

Whew thanks guys, yes it's white and now it's gone from him. Sorry just want to make sure he's fine.
I saw my egyptian blow it out of his nose today, it was weird.. I would have freaked too, except I read it here in an earlier post.
The uro owners affectionally call it "snalt". It is normal and harmless. I have seen with mine that some secrete more than others. My ornates are really "snalty" and the others just average. My baby cyclura also does this, which surprised me a bit. As far as the smell you are talking about, I can't smell mine in the cage, but if I hold them, they have a slight smell. All animals have some smell if you really take a good whiff, but you have to determine if it is the normal smell of that animal or one of the other problems that were mentioned by other posters. Good luck with yours!
