My first for the season (Barstow, Cali)

cruddymutt Mar 18, 2007 07:58 PM

I went out with my daughter today just to see what was out moving. Went kinda early, around 5ish and temps were in the mid 70s. Found a fat green scorpion, I hate finding those. We ended up on a railroad side dirt road where we find lots of sidewinders and longnose. Was just starting to head back and spotted a nice dark red 3.5 ft Gopher. Didnt take my camera so no picks but it was nice to finally see something besides lizards.

Yeah, tis the season! Sounds like you had a good night. Like you I forgot my camera. I was out near Panamint Springs this weekend past, and saw a Mojave Sidewinder, Longnose, tiny Great Basin Gopher and a Lyre Snake. Things were coming out late. We didn't start spotting things til after 10 pm.

My kids like finding the Banded Geckos so we still have time to wait. Supposed to get some rain tomorrow so I'm sure thats gonna slow stuff down a bit.
