Water Dragons

chimbakka Mar 19, 2007 12:28 AM

I am thinking of getting a water dragon, and just wanted to ask a few questions. First off, I have a screen cage that is 3'x3'x6' tall that I would like to use as an enclosure. I know that CWDs need water, but I am unsure about how much is too much. I have a 35 gal tank that I would like to use in the bottom of the habitat, with sticks and what not to allow for the dragon to get in and out, but I am not sure if there is a maximum depth that is safe, and also what the best type of filter is to use that won't cause any harm to the dragon.
Thanks for your help!
Lindsay

I have kept/raised/hatched/bred water dragons for over 15 years and have never kept one in an all screen cage. Its too hard to keep the heat and humidity up in them.

I used glass tanks that had about 1/3rd water and the rest "land". The lids can be screen which can be partially covered if the humidity and heat can't be maintained in the winter.

I only make the water area deep enough that they can still touch the bottom with their feet. I have never used a filter system...but do have a drain in the water area and a tap under the cage to drain the water daily.
