HELP MY EGGS AND MY HATCHLING

mike3 Aug 12, 2003 03:57 PM

my eggs in my incubator haven'y hatched yet. They have been deflated for about a week now and nothing has happened. My first hatchling hatched 4 days ago. and all the others hatched 2 days ago. Should i start worrying. I heard if an egg has trouble hatching you should slit the egg so they can come out. When do you think i should resort to this.

Also, 1 of the 4 hatchlings has me a bit worried. It is not as alert as all the other hatchlings, and is sleeps while all the others are very active. Whenever i try to hold it it roles on its back. it weighs 7 grams like two of the other hatchlings so it is not petit. When i felt its stomach the left side was really hard. Like there was a pea sized hard thing in there. I am going to give the hatchlings a warm bath and see if it goes away while i rub it. Please help i dont want to lose him/her

Mike, I can't be very comforting except to say that not all babies are born normal. Of my four geyri babies I have an abnormal one, too (see post above). I think it will make it with some special care, but sometimes these things happen. I wouldn't know what to think about a hard bump in it. As far as eggs that don't hatch that long after the others go... some people do make a TINY slit in the egg, but I think they find that usually the hatchling inside is weak or something and has some other reason why it has not come out. Do not try to help them out in any way, as they do have the yolk sac attached that can tear and rupture. -Lucy

The hatchling with the bump in it's stomach died shortly after i posted. The two eggs in the incubator molded and started to get all oozy so i opened them up and one of the eggs had a hatchling in side which was clearly decomposing, and the other egg was a small embreo that died early in the incubation. But i have 3 healthy hatchlings running around. I have computer paper as their substrate and you can hear them try to dig or run around constantly, it is kind of funny. Also, I have been weighing them daily on my scale and it seems they stay at a constant 7 grams. When should they start to gain weight. They eat 3 wax worms every week to help them with thier growth. I am also giving them adult poo, fresh tiny veggies, and a tiny water bowl. Is there anything else i should do for them.

PS
I am going to try to keep them for a year. I would keep them longer but i dont have room for them, I am expecting at least 4 clutches next year. Giving them away will be the hardest thing.
