TURTLE NOT EATING, HELP!!!!!!

TonyC130 Mar 19, 2007 09:19 AM

I just recently ( 3 days ago ) bought a new Three Toed Box Turtle and he hasn't eated yet. I have him outside in my enclosure with my 2 females ( he is my new male breeder )and the temperatures here in the SoCal area have been comfortable about 85 Friday when he arrived, 90 Saturday and like 72 yesterday and I've been feeding them everyday the usual stuff like Mustard, Collard, Beet, and Dandelion greens. Plus Mealworms and Waxworms and today I'm going to pick him up some nightcrawlers after school to feed to him tomorrow.

Does anyone know how to get him to eat?
-Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Tony C- P.S.- What other protein items can I feed them, has anyone tried Hornworms, Phoenix Worms. Silkworms or Butter Worms?

Relax.
It's not unusual for a turtle to need some time to adapt to new surroundings, and for a turtle not to be interested in food for a week or two in such circumstances.

It's not a good idea to put a newly acquired turtle in with your other turtles. Now you have to worry whether this turtle is not eating from stress, a possible disease, or parasites, and whether you've exposed your other turtles to this.

I agree with StephF. The Night Crawlers should catch his attention. If a turtle of mine stops eating for awhile, I'll put something infront of it like soaked cat food and they love it. getting food in them kinda gets them back on track. Other times they'll only go for the cat food. Once they're on it, mix it with normal fruits and veggies. Don't sweat it.
