Help, snake is acting strange!

ethibode Mar 19, 2007 09:48 AM

I bought a male albino Ruthven kingsnake a month ago. Until 2 days ago, everything seemed fine. Hid in his cave during the day, active at night. Has had no problem eating a fuzzy once every 6 days so far. Temps are around 84 hot and 74 cold.

Two days ago I added another hidebox on the cool side (there is one over the heat pad as well). This is the only thing that has changed, that I know of. For the past 2 days he's been frantically trying to get out of the tank...trying hard to push thru the top just to come crashing down..over and over again. I have checked the temps, water is fresh, etc. I took him out last night and he was fine the entire time I held him. Put him back in his cage and the strange behavior continued.

Any ideas?

If he's old enough to be of breeding age (if he's not a baby), then he may be lookin' for love. That would explain this kind of behavior in a male snake this time of year. Duffy

Thanks! That definately makes sense. He is about 2 years old right now.

I would also check the water dish for mites...
