New Greek Enclosure

nataliekellyart Mar 19, 2007 02:58 PM

I just wanted to post some pictures of my new Greek enclosure that houses my pair of Greek Tortoises. It is 2X6 and about 15 inches deep. My Husband and I dug behind a retaining wall in our backyard and added bricks. I also built a wooden house for them that has a heat lamp inside and a roof on hinges, it stays about 75-85 degrees. Any advice on creating a good nesting area for my female? Natalie

Hello
Get rid of the bark and replace it with super soil
The brown labeled bag.
not purple, not red
the brown bag
It has no fertilizers.
It is sold at home depot or wallmart.
It is a soil ,peat, and sand mix
Tortoises try to eat everything and bark can cause impaction.
I have had them come in with metal and all sorts of things stuck in their intestines.
Supersoil works very well for a safe substrate in outdoor pens.
I usually add a strip or two of sod for grazing.
I see them attempt to eat all sorts of things.
Add a few plants in the ground for shade.
opuntia catus works for well for food and shade and calcium intake.
Some females like to lay by plants or a bushes root system.
best regards
jeff
