New Toys! Sorta OT...

triniian Mar 19, 2007 08:48 PM

Well, I am very excited to say...

I have new some toys!

First off - to keep things relevant, this is my NEW 5x2x2 showcase cage and palace of my BRBs. If you look closely on the right, I removed a plant so you could see the male hiding out. He's 4ft long... so yeah - their home is HUGE and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Next up are two different shots of my latest experiment - a simple 10 gallon vivarium. There is a lot of condensation on the front making it hard to see inside.

This is only 3 days old, but all plants seem to be taking to it graciously. Next step... in about a month if all goes well, I'll probably switch up to a 29gl and get some Red Eye Tree Frogs or some Poison darts... not sure which to go with yet though!

Here's the top view

For the substrate I have 1 inch of large gravel with another inch of slate and then 3 inches of coconut soil. The wate line is just below the slate and allows the soil to stay moist but drain off the excess water. There is coconut thatch backing which goes from the base to the top of the tank. This thatch draws water upwards through capillary action and release it into the soil... basically, it cycles itself.

Here's the front view.

And last but not least, more work than my 6 snakes, 3 fish tanks and vivarium combined is my new Miniature Daschund "Rue". At 14 weeks old, he's a handful - but he sure is fun.

Pretty soon I'm going to have to charge admission to my place!

Enjoy and thanks for looking!

And lastly... here's the star of my collection!

Very very cool stuff! I like that set up you have for the red eyes/dart poisons. I'd recommend that you get the red eyed treefrogs for that enclosure. My school library has a huge vivarium that houses three, and they are such fun to watch(at night of course lol, they just sleep during the day). But really they are very interesting to watch. Whether it's watching them wake up and removing their protective slime coat(which helps keep them form drying out in the day) or hopping from one leaf to another in an attempt to catch one particular cricket, red eyed treefrogs always provide entertainment(if you have the time to stay up late and watch them).

Hey Ian, I recognise that boy, one of Savannah's 2005 babies if I'm not mistaken that's SA-PO-07!

Have any more pics of him?
