Overweight?

KenC Mar 20, 2007 02:09 PM

Hello,

I am new to bloods but not reptiles and just have one question. I see a lot of bloods that are fat which is normal. But how can you tell if he is getting overwieght. I know hot to tell for my other snakes. But bloods seem to be special for there huge body mass and short length. My blood is still young and I know many problems can derive from being overwieght so I want to make sure I get my facts straight before he gets older and I get moore bloods.

Ken

I'd have to say you see a TON of over weight blood pythons out there!!! People feeding to large of prey items, power feeding and so on. Bloods should feel firm and muscular not mushy as overweight animals feel. These animals only need a meal every 10days to 2 weeks. As adults a Large rat once a month is fine.
