Back due to popular demand . . . PICS

Hi Guys

I saw that Chris and Mike was trying to get my attention on an earlier post for a recent pic one of my animals. I only saw this last night so I took some pics of him and some nice up-and-comers/recent aditions. Sorry, I didn't see the post since I was really busy last weekend (it even spilled to monday). Anyway, here are some recent pics of him.

As you can see on the pics he actually changed from an almost toxic green colored hatchling into a very nice greenish gray animal. Although his base background color had darken a bit he did not develop much speckling at all. My good friend Chris B. did tell me that this animal would not retain the color(as he held back animals with this color in the past) as an adult. The main reason I got him was I was interested on the unique pattern of the animal rather than the color(evethough if was a very nice plus!). Even after the change, I still absolutely love his color since there is so much potential for future selective breeding. Just thinking about the color and pattern that his line posses is really pumped up. With this year being his first year breeding I am really excited on how his hatchling would turn out. I'm going to bred him to an orange female with a similar reduced pattern/blotching from my outcrossed applegate/vivid line since my greenish female is not big enough yet. Wish me luck!

For those of you that is unfamiliar with his hatchling pic. Here it is.

Here are also some up-and-comers/new additions to my thayeri clan coming from Bob H. and Mike B.

Here's a very unique female that I got from Bob a couple of weeks ago. A classic buckskin animal with nice lateral orange pinstripe in each scale. I love her belly color also as it is black and orange althoughout. Looked like she was soaked in alcohol and the colors bleed out, hehe. Reminds me somewhat of a Bairds Rat Snake. She will be bred to my reduced black orange Vivid male this year She came with a nice greenish male that may or may not see some action this year since I still have my studs to do the job. Maybe I can slip him in as a back-up.

I wonder if Tim originally held back animals like this back in the day to finally develop the orange animals that he produced over the years.

Here's another pair of animals that came from Mike B.

First is a yellow female from last year. I've been wanting to get a yellow female from Mike and it finally happened early this year. I had to wait for the weather to get warmer and finally got her last week. Here's her pic.

Second is an animal I got from Mike in 05. A nice milksnake phase. I can't wait until he sires some hatchlings for me as he is the heir to the throne of my Orange Vivid milksnake phase male after he retires. Probobly not soon though as he is a stud!

Hope you guys enjoy the series.

Holy buckets! That first male and the orange belly female are crazy! I'd love to have a couple like that. This year I'm really looking to pick up some nice reduced pattern thayeri, and some bright oranges. Looks like those two take the cake!

Your photographing skills are also incredible. Thanks for sharing those great pictures!

Hi Aubrey

Thanks for the compliments but thank Mike and Chris also. I've been meaning to take some pics of this guy and their post gave me a little nudge to finally take 'em. Also, with all the thayeri lovers here in this forum, you should be able to find some nice ones this year for your collection. Good luck.

I've been looking forward to seeing that male again, I would say that he matured into one very nice young male Jonel. His color is about what I expected it to be, and I do know how attractive it is. Thanks for sharing. I've looked at a lot of Mike's yellow animals over the last couple years, personally I think the '06 yellow female you now have would be another excellent choice for this guy and knowing you, you're probably thinking the same thing. Many of Mike's babies have had similar pattern traits, and although not nearly as elaborate as your male, I think the two would combine very well and we might see some pretty astonishing things happen.

I'll be looking forward to seeing a nice side angle shot of this male of yours one day that show of his side markings along with his overall pattern. A shot like that would be a great addition to your site!

Hi Mike

Thanks man. You're right. One of my future plans is breeding the yellow female to this greenish male as well as working with and breeding the orange, yellow, and ofcourse greenish lines. Isn't this fun? Lots of possibilities here. BTW, I remember that animal on your pic. Isn't that a male from '05? Thayeri5m if I remember correctly. Looks like you have a nice one to work with also. Now it's my turn to give you a nudge. Ahem, Is the website finished yet? We would love to see that Mike. HEHE.

Hi Jonel,

That is correct, he is Thayeri5m. He's from an '04 clutch, I bought him from Chris in '05.

Website? What website?!!

Actually, I became frustrated working within the limits of the site builder provided by my ISP so I gave it the boot. That preview site I showed you still exists unpublished in a new version, however I won't use it. I bought a domain name, a two year hosting package and I'm designing the new site with Nvu. Now my only limit is my ability to learn the program well enough to do what I want to do. The site will be hosted on Linux servers. I have a basic format laid out that I'm pretty happy with, but lately I've had to set it aside to gear up for spring. I have a little bit of an expansion going on over here that's keeping my spare time occupied. I'd like to see it published too so I can relax and just do updates and additions, but it might be a while.

I'm never in too much of a hurry.

Oh Ya. All of those are exxxxcellent. That green fella looks about like I expected. He's still awesome. Back in the late 90's I had a female that looked alot like that male and I gave her away foolishly to an old freind in AZ. He never bred her and she escaped and was never found. The one from Bob with the stripped scales and reduced black is really really nice too. And those Bodner snakes.........what else can you say. I've got several from Mike B also. Those yellows are something else. Good luck with the greenie this year Jonel.

Hi Chris

Thanks. Sorry to hear about that male you gave away. We all have those animals that we kick ourselves for letting go. BTW, how's Sharktooth doing? Is he in line for a female this coming season? Good luck with you animals bro. Take care.

I'm going to try Sharktooth with these two leonis females. The first one "Ester" will be her first time to breed. The second one "Mildred" is my most experienced female.

Man, that's one awesome snake. Always one of my favorites. Those two females are great choices for him. Is that first female a Bodner baby? I have a female from Mike that looks just about like her.
Ken

vichris Mar 21, 2007 05:33 PM

Yes Ester is a Bodner snake. She from his F2 wild caught female. She's a little on the small side but I've palpated her and she's ready to breed. I'm not holding out alot of hope for a good clutch but you never know

Chris

Let us know how they do this season. I would love to hear if he passes on some unique head pattern traits to his sired hatchlings. If I remember correctly some of Sharktooth's siblings had some crazy headgear too. Keep in touch.

ps. We need NEW pics of them from your NEW camera. HEHE

pretty much ROCK! The thing I like most about thayeri is their ability to produce unique specimens. IMHO keep stock from diverse lines is the key to maintaining this and it looks like you're following that practice.

KenCasstevens Mar 21, 2007 12:03 PM

That's still my favorite Thayeri pic ever. I remember thinking when you originally posted it that he was the prettiest snake I'd ever seen. That pic alone made me want to breed for the green ones, and hopefully that will happen this year. He's still gorgeous, and should produce some smokin' babies. Especially with that yellow female. That's one hot mama! That female with the orange belly is incredible. I had a female once that was light gray with black key-holed saddles, and an orange belly like hers. I sold her like an idiot. That was the one that I kick myself for. That's a really sharplooking msp male. I'm sure he will be more than ready to step up to the plate when it's his time. Thanks for all the pics, Jonel. It was good to hear from you. You've definately got a great collection.

Hi Tony

Thanks. What else can we not love about these guys. Almost all the diversity and beauty even without the morph/mutation influence. I'm trying to get some diverse lines while making an effort to refine some cool traits. FUN FUN FUN STUFF.

Years ago, when I had 200 plus breeders, I kept 8.8 thayeri. My thought was always that if one day I grew up and largely get out of snake breeding I'd still keep the 8.8 thayeri and retain something significant. Point of the matter was that it was very fun putting different pairs together and watching what came out of those pairings every year. For me at least thayeri have been the most enjoyable species to work with. I also think that it’s pretty gratifying that you can almost develop your own signature (read distinctive) line by what you select for. Several people's stock comes to mind in that regard. You and Russ B have I think some of the nicest out crossed Vivid stock, you can pick out Dan V's stock (or influence from it) a mile away, there are the Bodner yellows, Bauble stock and last but not least there is Tim G's Vivid line which speaks for it's self.

Since this thread started out on a green note here is my greenish leonis male:
