uro not eating please help!

devenrdougherty Mar 20, 2007 06:20 PM

I have had my uro for a couple months now and she has been eating fine, but all of a sudden she wants nothing to do with food. I have no idea what to do. I feel like if I don't get some food in her fast that she will wither away to nothing. Her temperature hasn't dropped. Nothing that I can think of has changed. Does anyone know any sure fire ways or certain types of food that are high in nutritional value that I can get for her. A certain kind of green or an extra meaty worm or something? If she is eating more seldom I want to make sure that the food that she does get down ins very good for her, so that maybe she will snap out of this anorexic stage she is in. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Did you purchase her from a petshop or a reputable breeder? Do you know if she's CB or WC? Often times wild-caughts will eat fine & then crash after a couple months due to parasites.
What are your temps, high to low? What are you feeding her? That includes greens AND hard foods.
What sort of hides does she have available? Are they tight & "wedgey" as they should be?
Review your lighting again. Are you sure temps & UV are where they should be?
Keep posting!
Haven't been on this forum before but just seemed like common sense questions.

Ok now I have finally gotten her to eat a mixture of kale, collard greens, peas, and dandilions. Pretty happy about that! But I just can't seem to win because now she seems to have the skin on her sides becoming really hard. I have never seen this before and have no idea but, maybe you all know more about it. Please help. Thank you so much!

How old is she? How big is she currently? What species?

My female went thru 2 periods, roughly 1-2 months long, of total inactivity over the past 3 years. This winter however she has been alert and active basically everyday.

If she is healthy I wouldnt be worried. If she is losing weight, has watery or unusual excerment, or isnt active at all over the next month or 2 I would become worried.

Unless this has been going on for a while its probably nothing.

Oh and what does her diet consist of?

My uros have changed what they really enjoy eating over the past 3 years. Mine used to love green beans, now they just look at them and dont even touch em anymore.

My uros love fresh hibiscus flowers and sprouted beans, my female is just waiting for the hisbiscus to bloom right now, still a few months away, but she absolutely loves them. She will come running up to my hand looking for them almost everyday when I change their plates of food.

If she isnt eating you could try finch seeds or cockatiel pellet food(I use zupreem or lafebers) too, I give mine these usually once or twice a week and they love them.

Mainly they get dandelion greens, kale, endive, escarole and bok choy along with field greens every day or every other day. Mine also love bee pollen, but I only give them a very small amount every month or so.

Yeah, what were you feeding your uro? Try dandelion flowers and frozen/thawed green peas. Those two items are your best chance to get the uro eating again. Then check out the following website for additional nutritional options.
