Tortoise Info

Demetrius Mar 20, 2007 08:01 PM

Hello everyone ,
I have been in love with tortoises for several years now but haven't been brave enough to actually purchase one yet . I live in a moderate climate and have lots of land . I am interested in Leopards and Sulcatas . I was curious how long it takes for them to reach adult size . Thank you .

We got a sulcata yesterday from someone that got her as a baby- had her for 6 years. She's a good 14-18 inches long, pretty decent weight. I don't know how long it takes to get "adult" size but that should give you an estimate- other people can give better info than I can too.

Does that mean you are offering her (actually, probably, him) up for adoption?

Cool.

Here's a nice picture of a baby and a 19 year old sulcata.

Mines gonna be 20 in July, and is 100 lbs. He eats greens and grass, alot of grass and weeds. If I sit in a chair in the back yard and have a few cactus pads, he will dash across the yard and crawl up my legs to get them.

Great picture! What's he been eating (looks like he's raided the strawberry patch <g>.

Why that would be prickley pear all over his mug.

Every now and then i'll give him some strawberries too, he loves them!

Unfortunately, he thinks red painted toenails look pretty good too! (he's not very popular with the ladies)
