ETB Prolapse/Urate Issues

Cjacques Mar 20, 2007 10:25 PM

Hello. I have an adult ETB that has health problems we're trying to deal with. Any help would be appreciated, as our supposed snake vet has no advice to give us.

Every month he has urate stones to pass. They build up until he can't pass them himself, and we have to take him in to have them passed. No matter what we seem to try, he still gets them. The last urate he passed was golf-ball sized.

The other problem is that when he passed this urate (last week), he prolapsed. We rushed him to the vet to have it pushed back in. Two days later, he did it again. So off we rushed to the vet... It's been four days since then. Just tonight he did it again while passing a bunch of liquids and a tiny bit of urates. I - with the help of my boyfriend - pushed it back in with q-tips and mineral oil. The tissue was really red and irritated tonight, with a bit of blood (just like the time before).

Help!

does he have access to plenty of clean water. what size prey do you feed and how often. what you can do is when you see the bulge at the end of the taid you can put him in the shower with warm water being sprayed on him usaully they do there duty within 10 minutes have it spray the middle of there body

I wanna thank everyone so much on this forum. You know whenever I have a serious question about a medical condition or other concern I get nothing from these forums. You people go back to your stupid little pictures. I will never recommend this forum or kingsnake in general to anyone ever again.

Good Day.

Your animal is chronically dehydrated. Up your relative humidity ( but still provide adequate ventilation ), make a perch and throw it in the shower for 10 or 15 miutes every day or so, and hope for the best. Make sure the shower has more of a rain effect, not mist. They recognize large droplets, not mist. However, I have not seen or heard of an Emerald that has survived a prolapse, different story with Green Trees

Hi, I don't post here often but I have an ETB juvenile aprox (150g) about 2 years old that has survived a prolapse. Her first prolapse was about 8-10 months ago and it went back in on its own after a large deffication and some preperation H. She has prolapsed a few times in the past months but I soak her and she deficates and it retracts. I guess I posted this to give some one hope if they are dealing with the issue. Also sugar water has worked well.
