at least i know 1 good pet store...

Hey guys! I was looking for another job to get some extra $, when it dawned on me to go to one of my local pet stores. I never bought anything there because of the terrible conditions they have the reptile department in. So I figured just for fun I would apply there and see what happened. The very next day I was hired! Now, after only three days, all the sickly lep. geckos are eating well, the igs are shedding, and the entire section has been rennovated. I have to say, the owner spent a good amount of $ setting everything up that I had asked for. This made me realize that the problem, at least in this situation, was not that pet store owners dont want to spend the money to take good care of their herps- its the fact that they are ignorant to what good reptile husbandry is all about. Even so, ignorance is no excuse- but at least ignorance is a problem which can be rectified. I was amazed at how after only 2 days, the owner was basically putting me in charge of the reptiles all together. I have changed their diets from everyone getting that red turtle paste, to each animal having a meal and supplements taylored to its own species' requirements. The substrates got changed- THANK GOD. The bulbs were switched for higher wattages, once again- THANK GOD. It was really bad. But now, it's almost PERFECT. All we need now are some uvb bulbs...
