Hypo BRB's, digging up history....

rainbowsrus Mar 21, 2007 05:47 PM

I already know Mike's history on his hypo line, his animals were siblings from a litter produced by "Dr. Ross". Unknown history on where those parents came from or where any siblings bight be. Since Mikes history starts with two siblings purchased from EBV, there probably are related hypo genes out there. I know of at least one instance here in the SF bay area where hypos also popped up in breeding and was suspected to be related to the lockwood line. Unfortunately, that store caught on fire and I believe the animals were lost.

Also from Mike's site and other discussions I've had with folks I know of two other hypo lines.

1) Mike Lockwood -> EBV line, definately the most widely known and with the most known specimens.

copied and edited from Mikes site are:

2) Darren Bell has produced animals that have reduced red pigmentation but contain a bit more brown then Mikes.

3) Tim Frazure has an animal who has recently given birth who looks strikingly similar to Mikes. The history of Tim’s animal is unknown.

and of course the latest line:

4) Eve and brood, the adult WC gravid female who dropped her litter in captivity containing the only striped hypo I've ever seen. To my knowledge, this is the only line fresh from the jungle with no inbreeding (other than what occurs naturally). And all possible specimens, hets and hypo's, accounted for (I have em all ).

Anybody know of anyone else having a "unique" or "original" hypo line?

For example, Exotics By Nature (EBN) has produced two litters of hypos and het hypos (very healthy animals, I have a pair) but their breeders can be traced back to Mike's line so not an "original" line.

They were advertising a female hypo for $3k shipped so I sent an e-mail awhile back when Dave posted "Scammers" when someone tried to buy a stripe bci from him and supposably someone used the wrong account or something illegal (Dave where is the follow up?) Well around then maybe 5-6 weeks ago they advertised the hypo but had two brown snakes pictured advertising a $3k ad. So I sent an e-mail to them saying do you know you're selling brown snakes instead of a hypo and their reply was that was hets pictured so I specifically asked for pics of the hypo but got no pics. The funny thing was this ad was posted at 10p.m. some nights and removed the next morning or following morning which I noticed two times posted and removed the next morning by 9 or so. So now they only have one sh-t brown snake pictured a couple days ago so there is no telling. Just sounds fishy that's all, just my experience with them though.

I think this male I purchased from a pet shop could be a unique line, it appears to be a wild caught animal, I dont know how it would make it to a pet shop without anyone snatching it up? KB

Nice snag, have any more pics? Give us more details of the transaction and any other info, age, location of find, did you even ask where thya got it? What makes you think WC? My Eve has obvious scarring besides being at a known importer.

Definately not saying it is, but could it be related to Mikes? I know several of Mikes early babies (the pos hets) may have "gotten away" as normals before the trait was proven as genetic. Along with any other hets from the "Ross" litter that EBV had. There was a hypo that cropped up in a pet store here in San Jose, The store suspected they were and were going to raise them up but the store had a fire and I believe they were lost.

Hey Dave that hypo from New Jersey is in the classifieds if you want to take a peek at her, I haven't seen any of Bell's but it looks like it has more brown so it may be from him.
