Herpin in Nor Cal.... no touchy......

Daniel Klopson Mar 21, 2007 07:06 PM

found two of these guys outside the Napa Valley last weekend. I LOVE these snakes, they are so cool to see, feel, and hear! The scales on these animals feels like a file... so neat. Not the monsters people make them. Dan

That's awesome. I don't know much about rattle snakes, except that my dad had a Mojave when he was still in the army (found in his shirt when he woke up in the morning). That may have been and still may be the only snake to have ever parachuted out of a plane!

i live in the sierra mt's here in Lassen CO i can travel 5mi and have mountains of rocks and have been out there just to find rattlers to take a pic, never seen one first hand and want to, would never try to pick one up, just a pic is fine, i see lizards and such, but no rattlers, bullsnakes(rattler wanna be's) are around my yard. Maybe that will have to do, but summer is almost here, so will try again, now that i have a better zooming camera as well.

I just want to let you know this pic. was taken first thing in the morning... about 65 degrees. That snake was as cold as ice cream and thus very easy to handle! PLEASE dont follow my example! PLEASE be careful with these guys! We need all our fingers to clean Boa cages.. Thanks guys, Dan.

You seem to be holding the snake properly and to be honest I have handled Timber rattlesnakes and it was a rush, yes, somewhat irresponsible, but still good fun. Nice photo.

Actually his grip is far from correct and quite open to getting tagged in more then 3 different ways

expecially from that fang thru the bottom of the jaw, any way of holding a venomous snake is dangerous, I expect experts like yourself will be bit in a matter of time, because you know the only proper way to handle them.
