Has anyone tried this? Much more lightweight & cheap too..

Try it, or no way?

Durarock? Concrete backerboard? If this is what you are talking about, I'd say absolutely not. This is still way too heavy and hard to work with. And it's not nearly as strong as you might think.

This stuff:

You can get a magnificently large -- 4 by 8 feet --and fabulously cheap whiteboard for all of $13 at Home Depot. What you want is the Solid White Tileboard (sometimes called Melamine tile wall panel) used as a tile substitute in bathrooms. Some know it as showerboard because a couple of sheets of this and you have a nice waterproof shower stall

I just cant get into the diy projects when it comes to racks , I purchased my first vision rack and I must say I am sold a 100% now,I will gladly spend the money for a vision rack anyday, its lightweight easy to move around and assemble and works superb , if you can spend thousands on balls take a small portion of that capital and invest in professional rack systems for your animals, its all about theem to me and it just makes this whole hobby/buisness system as a whole stronger and better check out a vision you will love it.

1 rheo per tub? Is there a way to use only 1 rheo & hook more than 1 heat pad to it?

I can see this is going to be a long weekend, lol.

So, your whole setup is really light as a result? And holds good moisture for sheds?

What did you use to nail the tileboard to? Tx for the help!
