Yellow Rat Feeding Problems.

myklx Mar 23, 2007 12:13 PM

I have a 2 foot male Yellow Ratsnake thats I have had for about 7 weeks. He seems healthy, active and alert. Supposably he is a captive born snake. Every time I feed him, he throws up the mice in about 2 days (and it stinks up the whole reptile room BAD!). I thought it might have been a bad batch of frozen mice, but I have feed these to other snakes with no problem. The temp in the tank is about 89 degrees on the high side during the day and about 78 at night.
I think I'm dealing with internal parasites but wanted to get some opinions.
Any thought/ideas/solutions would be appreciated. I beleive a vet visit is going to be coming up though.
Thanks for any help....

See the thread from 3/15 about Texas Rat Trouble. The exact same scenario was covered in that thread.

Good luck,
Billy

This is VERY IMPORTANT!!,.....until you see the vet, DO NOT attempt to feed him anything(zero)at all. Continued regurges will kill the snake in a fairly short time.....Like "KJUN" said, read the threads here that were on 3/15......they will be useful to you're identicle situation!.......your vet visit is still the real way to go(if he/she is knowledgeable with herps).

Besides what has been stated I think that temp is to high and can be a problem, nighttime temps sound ideal, the 89 degree temp can lead to regurge and the severe smell due to putrifing the food animal in the gut. Like wise it could easily be parasites, but I have also experienced regurges with temps that are either to high or too low for optimal metabolization (is that a word lol) of the fodder.
