well, after all the debating over what to use for the inside of the "uro mansion" (tile board, paint, stain, sealer, lino), we went the best way i could figure that wasn't going to run me into the ground financially - fake rock background and floor made from tile grout and sealed up with grout sealer. we are still in the process of slapping the grout down onto the styrofoam, but its already looking pretty awesome. yes, pics will come very soon, as we are taking "in process" pics. i know many people have had great success with this product, so i figured why not try it and see...
the reason i decided to go this route was mainly because i could not figure out something that i was comfortable with since these little guys have such lovely nails. also, i wanted something easy to clean, and that would last for a long time. i was also able to insulate the cage very well using styrofoam sheets for the entire floors and walls, then adding little bumps and fake rocks into both, making it look very realistic. i was able to build in hides that are still accessible for cleaning, and even put in a sand pit area that is divided off by a taller rock wall area with steps. and we decided to do something a little different than most people do for lighting - recessed lights that are not seen unless looking up into the cage. we were able to find fixtures that will hold up to a 150 watt bulb, which should be plenty to get to the temps we need. the uvb strip is not recessed, but will have sort of a reflector built up around it with the tile grout to make it less noticeable. we are building the canopy above the tank to hide the fixtures, and as some storage area. painting or staining the whole thing on the outside, and im thinking by next saturday, the gang can move into their new home! im very excited!
