Temp guns...

sean1976 Mar 23, 2007 02:05 PM

I responded with a question about temp guns in one of the forums but cannot find it anyware so I am suspicious of whether the thread got deleted/edited since it was talking about a specific brand/product.

I need to get a temp gun but am having trouble figuring out which one will work best for me so I would like the opinions/advice of those of you who currently use them. I am particularly surious about one or two of the specs and what I will need in them.

If the response will risk deletion from thread or if want to help me but not publicly use names please feel free to send me a personal message.

Thanks in advance,

Sean.

I get mine from Radio Shack. They have different models and quality depending on what you want to spend.

Sean,
..Mine is a Raytek Minitemp. Has a laser spotter and the cone is 1 inch wide at a distance of six inches. This makes it good for measuring small snakes at short distances and large snakes out to three or feet distance from the temp gun. I first saw these demonstrated at reptile shows about 15 years ago and they were all priced around $500. The price has come down a bunch on them since then. I think some of the ones for less than $25 are perfectly suitable for our purposes for temperature measurement at fairly short distances.
