Leo Eggs

danbob987 Mar 24, 2007 04:40 PM

This is my first breeding season. My girl was gravid and then she laid her eggs in one of her hides in the hot end. I had an egg laying hide filled with peat moss in the cage. I sprayed the laying hide every night This is her first time as she is about 15 montsh old. The eggs are shriveled and are obviously not fertile. My question is... why wouldnt she have layed in the moss? Any input would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance.

Did you have the laying hide on the warm side of the tank? When females are getting ready to lay they seem to want a little more heat, and they especially want the lay-box to be warm. When my girls are about ready to lay a clutch I'll turn the temp up to 91-92 and put the moist hide box fully over the UTH. Be sure that one of her hides have access to some of the uth heat as well, but the hide box should be nice and warm. That should take care of the problem for you...good luck! Fran
