True Surinam Red Tail...HELP!!!

dfourmed Mar 24, 2007 11:15 PM

It's been awhile since my younger herp collecting days...Can someone remind me...I believe red-tails are tropical, meaning that they preffer higher humidity. Also, I seem to remember them as being aboreal, or liking to climb. Please help! Just picked up a Surinam True Red, and want to make it as natual as possible. Thanks!

I keep temps between 80 and 90 and humidity around 45%-55% (60%-65% durring shed). The can and will climb but it is not required to maintain thier habitat (although it can look pretty cool to watch them climb). I like to mist once a day for humidity spikes (particularly durring breeding season).

You can also check this out. It is a pretty good refresher for general husbandry for True red tails
