Egg bound

LLL Mar 25, 2007 06:15 AM

I think one of my females is egg bound. Is there anyway to tell if she's just getting ready to lay or is egg bound?

How long has it been? Has she been acting weird? Has she been eating? ZHas she gained any weight? Does she have circles in her belly that would indicate she has eggs in her?

Thanks for writing....It's been almost 2 weeks, she's lathargic but today she's been doing alot of climbing, she's not eating alot, and she's always been big but her stomach is huge sometimes she drags it on the ground, when I look at her belly it looks like 3 or 4 eggs.

Well they usually only lay 2 but sometimes 3. It's only been 2 weeks since you breed is that what yo are saying? It usually takes between 3-5 so it could just be getting ready. Do you have a sufficient lay box ready in their for her? I would give it to the end of the week and then i would possibly go for a vet visit. Good luck! Keep us informed!

I've been able to see the eggs for 2 weeks. I have 2 boxes one with vermiclite and one with moss. She has very labored breathing today.

How long since you have breed her? If more then 5 weeks i would take to a vet asap. Is the vermucilite moist or just dry?

Not sure how long, they are in the same tank all the time. The vermucilite is moist. She did have one egg last night it looks good so maybe she's working on the other 2. I just thought they had them at the same time. At least that's how my other ones have come out.

Keeping them together is most likley stressing her out and that is why she won't lay them comfortably. I would really remove the male asap until she lays them all.
