How Long should heat and UVB need

kotp Mar 25, 2007 06:47 AM

I have checked out many care sheets in the internet. They did telling us how to make a good condition for our dragons. Howver, they didnt mention that how long we have to provid enough heat and UVB each day. Anyone know about it?
I saw my dragons are always slept when the heat lamp is still turned on. I turn on the heat and uvb lamp about 10 hours non-stop each day. Im using usb 8.0 and 100w. basking spot is about 100F and cool space is about 70F.
Thanks

The lights and heat should be on between 10 and 14 hours depending on the season. I personally never have them on less than 12. Right now I am just about at 14 hours on and will stay that way until late fall or early winter. Also the basking spot should be between 105-110 for adults and 110-115 for babies. You also need to use a timer if you are not already. Daytime start and end must stay consistant.

By having short days and low temps. you are encouraging them to Brumate which is probably why they are sleeping a lot. Brumation is what the Dragons do in the wild when the days get cool and short.

I would gradually raise your temps and increase their day lengths.

Also try to keep night temps. at about 70 if you can.

Daylight/UVB for bearded dragons should be around 12-14 hours per day. If you want to brumate, then 10-12 hours of daylight is good. Buying a timer is the best thing to do, as this allows the lights to go on and off at the same time, so you don't have to worry about turning lights on and off manually.
