Dwarves!

scaleslithers Mar 25, 2007 08:30 AM

hi guys, below are some of my dwarf burms:

wc male

ch female

wc male

2.1 are slightly above 3 feet while 0.1 is around two feet++. i kind of need more information on them because there seemed to be very little i could find in the net or publications. at what age can the re-produce? how old do you think they are now? how large could grow into? apart from patterns, size and position of their eyes, what other characteristics differ from the normal burms?

1.1 is quite docile but a little bit jumpy. but the other 1.1 is totally satanic. i got one male in the group that will bite repeatedly until you let him go. even if you let him go after that, he will still stand his ground and try to bite...hahaha very cute indeed.

any comments, extra information or others are truely appreciated.

thanks in advance.

No info just questions and comments from me. They are nice looking. I was told that the dwarf retics are jumpy as well and not all that docile. I wonder if the dwarf burm is the same. How big do males and females get, and thickness. Do they get like bloods?

Thank you

Jeff

We have 2.3 dwarf burmese pythons. 1.3 are imports from Japan. 1.0 WC that was imported as an adult in 2003. He is about 5 1/2 feet and is a proven breeder. He was bred to an albino granite and a leopard this season. The 1.3 are captive bred 04 animals. These are all right at 4 feet and weren't ready to breed this year. I would venture to guess that yours are 05 animals due to their size. These dwarf burms seem to be more age dependent than size dependent when it comes to breeding. We hope the 3 1/2 year mark is the proper age. Our 04 male had no interest in breeding this year. Our 04 females were not receptive to the wild caught male.

The temperment ranges from VERY mild to VERY SATANIC. We included pictures of the 04 female that loves to be handled. The other two females do not want to be handled, but are more jumpy defensive than agressive. The wild caught is very defensive. The 04 male is insane. He will charge at you if you invade his cage.

As far as size, they are a miniature form of the burmese python. Seem to max out at 7 feet, smaller for males as ours is only 5 1/2 and full grown.

I hope this helps.

thanks for the clarification artiscales. really appreciate it. however i do have more questions pertaining to the matter.

what about locality? where do you think they are from? i tried to inquire from the seller but the details he gave me was kind of sketchy. either he is hiding the information or he seriously dont even know where they are from. i got few answers though which i dont even know whether they are true or false. some say they are from Sulawesi, while other stated they are from the islands of the superdwarf retics.

since i have just received them and would like to let them settled first, i have not check their head scalation nor scale count. but do head scalation or scale count differ from those of normal burmese pythons?

frankly, at the moment i feel like im messing around with a fat morelia rather than burms due to their size.

As far as locality goes, we are in the dark as well. We were told that they are from an island off Myanmar (Burma). It is a closely guarded secret, only the collector and the Japanese importer know where it is. We were also told due to its secrecy, the US government has banned further importation of wild caught animals. This is what we have been told, if it is all true....

As far as scale count, I will check on that for you in the morning. We have regular sized burms to compare.

could you? i could be wrong but usually head scalation alone would be more than enough to differentiate between ssp.

thanks

Here are some pictures of three different burmese pythons.

Leopard Burm Female
CB Dwarf Female 3
WC Dwarf Male

Although there are differences in scale count, there was nothing significant. The scales between the occular and postnasal varied from 4-6 within the dwarfs. One girl has a scale in the center of the top of her head, which none of the others have.

I wish the evidence could have been more cut and dry.
