Edible

gvmcc Mar 25, 2007 08:32 AM

First - thanks to all who post here...I've been lurking for about 6 months and have learned such valuable information. Now to my question...I have read all I can find on the care and feeding of uros, and know that certain edible flowers are taste treats. But how can I tell what NOT to feed him?

We live in Pennsylvania, rather limited on the time of year we can even provide flowers, and certainly don't have much by way of hibiscus laying around!

What about crocuses? daffodils? (spring flowers) or other wild flowers as the season moves on? is there a place I could find this info? Are there any flowers that are harmful?

Thanks in advance for any help....

Basically, any flower that a human could eat is fair game for use as an occasional treat.

Here are a few links. Others can be found by doing an internet search.

Over the bridge from you I have 2 uro's and I know you get plenty of dandilions, the flowers and greens they love, I also have rose hedges and give them roses, they go nuts for them (providing theres no pesticides on anything you pick or give them to eat.

Also I pick my big daylilies for them , love them also, and pansies.

There are alot of things they can eat, below is a link to edible/ toxic and non-toxic flowers/plants

Thanks to all who answered! I appreciate the help and advice. I'm very new to the uro world and soaking it all up like a sponge. So far so good....keep your fingers crossed for me and Izzy!

Howdy Neighbors!

I propose we demand better weather so we can grow tasty treats year round for our uros!! Ha ha - think it will work? In the meantime, I'll be waiting for the violets and assorted wildflowers to show.
